Product Review: Prevagen Memory Supplement

Formula

At the heart of Prevagen is a unique, patented ingredient called Apoaquorin, originally sourced from jellyfish and subjected to over four decades of rigorous research and testing. The newly enhanced Professional Formula now contains four times the usual amount of Apoaquorin and is further enriched with 50 mcg of Vitamin D, aimed at boosting cognitive benefits. This formulation is scientifically reviewed and clinically validated to support brain functions, especially aiding those experiencing minor memory loss related to aging.

Effects

In a computer-based clinical study by Quincy Bioscience, Apoaquorin showed significant potential in enhancing cognitive functions over a 90-day trial. Primarily targeting older adults dealing with age-related cognitive decline, Prevagen has, however, been under legal scrutiny. In 2017, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the New York Attorney General sued Quincy Biosciences, accusing them of making unsubstantiated claims about Apoaquorin's effectiveness. Furthermore, the FDA has expressed concerns over Prevagen’s lack of warnings on possible severe side effects, such as seizures and strokes, questioning the supplement’s safety and reliability.

Use

Prevagen is marketed as an over-the-counter dietary supplement, readily available without a prescription. For best results, it is suggested to take one capsule daily in the morning, with or without food. Following these guidelines helps integrate Prevagen smoothly into one’s daily regimen to potentially enhance cognitive health and overall wellness. However, consulting a healthcare provider before beginning any new supplement is recommended, particularly for those with existing health issues or who are on other medications.
